During a recent interview promoting the much-awaited “Fast and Furious 10” movie, John Cena revealed exciting details about his upcoming appearance as a merman in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie. The former wrestler enthusiastically shared that the opportunity came about serendipitously, as he ran into actress Margot Robbie on the streets. “It was a happy accident,” he shared. “We literally randomly ran into each other as friends. Fast X was filming across the street from Barbie.”
Cena went on to share that Robbie, who is an essential player behind the scenes of “Barbie,” offered him the chance to appear in the highly anticipated movie. “I said, ‘I’ve been trying!’ And Margot makes a lot of the decisions for that, and I said, ‘Well, I’ll do whatever you need…’ They asked me if I wanted to be a merman, and I said, ‘Yeah, sure.'”
However, what made the situation amusing is that Cena and Robbie have worked together before in a significant DCU movie. Both Cena and Robbie appeared in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” (2021), with Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn while Cena played Peacemaker. The character was a hit, so much so that he now has his own spin-off series on HBO Max.
It is worth noting that the “Fast and Furious” star-studded cast has added more big names to its ensemble of returning players, including Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, and Alan Ritchson. On the other hand, “Barbie” boasts an equally impressive cast, including Simu Liu, Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, and Will Ferrell, among many others.
Excitement for the “Barbie” movie is already at an all-time high, with its impressive cast, fun costumes, and the possibility of seeing bright colours on screen. Fans will have something to look forward to as “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” will both be released on July 21, 2023, vying for audience attention.
