It is a hard life story like many other elves – well let’s start from an early age – like all other elf families I was trained to be a slave and serve my master and his family. I was appointed by a family of Muggles at Finnsbury Park in the suburbs of North London. I served a family of six members and toiled from the wee hours of the morning till late at night working for them. I took a great interest in observing their way of life and was especially fascinated by the huge books from which my Master read out to his wife and children after supper every night. Sitting by the fireplace every evening the family listened to the fascinating stories from across the world and it was the best part of the day for me too, as I stood behind the stairs and listened to the anecdotes. My Master David Jordan often noticed me standing behind the door and feasting on the memoirs of magnificent kingdoms, handsome knights, fairy princesses, menacing pirates and gory battles. My mistress Alicia Smith was kind-hearted and noticing my fascination and deep curiosity enrolled me in a preliminary school near their home and I was allowed to attend classes for a couple of hours during the day when the Master was out for work.
Many summers later I completed my school and my scores were exceptionally high. I remained loyal to the Jordan family and served them with all my heart, as I loved them dearly. One day my Master came home from work and went for a walk in the garden. I followed him like any other day, knowing little what lay ahead. Suddenly I saw a snake in the foliage of the grass about to sting him. The summer was in the offing and my master walked without a care enjoying the spring breeze. I had my stick with me which I carried during these walks to push the tall and overgrown shrubs to clear the garden path. Seeing my Master in trouble I threw the stick towards the snake with all my might. The snake lay motionless and still as the stick hit its head. By now Master had seen the entire drama unfold and he was petrified. Realizing what would have happened if I delayed in throwing the stick, he held me in his embrace and said in a gruff voice, “Toby you saved my life”.
Being the benevolent and kind man that he was, not only did he enrol me to the university for a degree, but also promised me a job at the bank once I completed my studies.
